Neues Münchner Gitarren Ensemble

About the "Neues Münchner Gitarren Ensemble"

On July 19th and 20th 2007 the four guitarists met at Unterbrunn, near Munich to perform the first rehearsal of the newly founded Ensemble. The instrumentation of this ensemble matches the one of the "Muenchner Gitarren Quartett" that was founded at the beginning of the last century.

The original instumentation
2 Terz-guitars, 1 Prim- guitar and 1 Quintguitar.

Thanks to the instrument collection of the "Hermann Hauser Foundation" it is now possible to make these instruments available. The guitares date from 1912 to 1922 and make it possible for this modern ensemble to achieve an impressive overall sound.

Mr.Andreas Stevens managed, through years of research, to locate the original compositions for the guitar ensemble and prepare them accordingly. The relevant compositions are by Heinrich Albert , Matthaeus Roemer, Rudolf Leberl, Ferdinand Rebay and Theodor Hlouchek.

In Unterbrunn they rehearsed "Quartett No.1" by Heinrich Albert and "5 movements of a Quartett composition" by Matthaeus Roemer. Quartett No.1 was composed in 1911; the composition by Matthaeus Roemer dates from 1924.

A first performance of the Heinrich Albert's and Matthaeus' Roemer's works is already in the planning. The Neues Muenchner Gitarren Ensemble will play at the" 2nd Heinrich Albert Guitar Competition" which will take place at the former residence of Heinrich Albert in Gauting, near Munich.
