Quint bass guitars. First live performance in 75 years – in Munich

There are two extraordinary quint bass guitar in possession of the HHGF. They were manufactured by Hermann Hauser I in Munich in 1922 and 1924. For the past 75 years, no audience have been able to enjoy these instruments. In the past, these instruments were played almost exclusively in the scope of guitar quartets – as accompanying instruments. On May 11, 2005 both instruments reappeared in public. This time in a duo! It was the vituoso guitar duo Gruber & Maklar who played the instruments. The scenery was impressing! And the charisma of these majestical instruments was really breath-taking. The place of the performance couldn´t have been better than the venerable “Allerheiligen Hofkirche” (All Saints´Church) of the “Residenz” in Munich. In the scope of a benefit concert in favor of “KINDER des HIMALAYA e.V.”, the audience comprised about 350 guests.

The audience were fascinated by the performance and the sound of these instruments and sincerely thanked the guitarists Christian Gruber and Peter Maklar, as well as the HHGF founders Klaus Wolfgang Wildner and Hermann Hauser for this unequalled experience. After the concert, numerous guests extensively caught up on the origin and history of the instruments. Attendant members of the HHGF willingly provided information on that.
